AmCham Welcomes United Airlines Daily Direct Flights Between HCM City and San Francisco.
AmCham HCMC Chairman Binh Nguyen welcomed United's daily direct flight between Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon) and San Francisco at a gala reception for 350 government, business, and community leaders. Binh said, "As I look around, there is not one person in this room, indeed there is not one person in this whole city, who does not have family or dear friends in the United States."He noted that the launch of the daily flights was very timely, permitting Vietnam residents to visit family in the USA for Christmas, while Americans could visit Vietnam for the TET Lunar New Year."United's daily flight will offer an opportunity to reunite family and friends who have been apart for far too long," he added. This is in an opportunity, in the words of the beloved Vietnamese poet and singer, Trinh Cong Son, to bring us closer and closer together." ("L?i g'n, g'n l'i v'i nhau.")He praised the efforts of many who had worked hard over several years to reach this point, noting that the Bilateral Trade Agreement had taken five years of negotiations, and entered into effect in 2001. "As a result, total trade between our two countries has quadrupled, from $1.5 billion in 2001 to over $6 billion this year, bringing benefits to workers and consumers in both countries."
